Getting Started...

So you fancy having a go at offshore powerboat racing. First step is to contact us through the contact form on this website. There plenty of ways to get involved in offshore powerboat racing, from navigating (co-pilot) for an existing team to arranging the use of the club boat (experience required). But the easiest way is to come along to a race or training day and meet with the other members.

What will i need?

  • To become a member of one of the powerboat racing clubs.
  • To ensure that your boat is safe and it will pass basic scrutineering (tech inspection).
  • Level 2 ISA or RYA powerboat certificate (For Drivers).
  • To know the rules and pass a basic theory and practical test.
  • Obtain a racing license or event license.
  • To have racing life jackets.
  • To have Orange or Brightly coloured helmets.
  • A navigator.

What will it cost?

  • Either an event licence at €75 per event.
  • Or a full licence at €210 for the season.
  • Medical, cost of visit to your GP.
  • Race entry, €100 Driver, €50 Navigator.

 

Basic Boat Requirements?

  • Hydraulic steering.
  • Foot throttle.
  • Orange retirement flag.
  • Battery & Fuel cut offs, (Identified).
  • Oars or Paddles.
  • Bow painter line.
  • Engine kill switch.
  • Numbers on boat

 

Crew Requirements?

  • Racing overalls or clothing that covers arms & legs.
  • Racing lifejacket.
  • Orange or brightly coloured helmets.
  • Knife, compress & whistle.
